Take your holiday celebration outdoors and spend the day out with family then catch a great firework show to end your night. No matter how you want to spend your Fourth of July this year, Chicago will give you an unforgettable experience.

Chicago Independence Day- Things to Do:

Of course, the biggest thing that you’re looking forward to is catching the fireworks at night, but what about your July 4th day? It might seem as if there isn’t much going on during the day, but there’s plenty to do! Spend your day celebrating at a festival or out exploring the windy city. There’s much to be done while celebrating a Chicago Independence Day, so get ready for a great time!

The Glen Ellyn Park District will host their Glen Ellyn Fourth of July celebration. At this festival, you’re going to be in for a busy day. From an early morning run to a parade and carnival, this Chicago Independence Day event will have it all. Starting the event off will be the morning four mile run at the Glenbard West Football Field. This run is going to be one of the biggest of the season, so be sure to register for the run before registration closes. After your run, grab a spot on Ellyn Ave and enjoy the parade as it marches down the avenue. Once the parade is over, there will be kid-friendly activities going on in Lake Ellyn Park to make the wait for fireworks shorter. When nighttime hits, enjoy a great view of the fireworks from the park and end the national holiday properly!

Other events worth checking out are the Frontier Days, Oak Fest, and the Northwest Fourth-Fest. These three different festivals all take place before July 4th and last until the July 4th. Start your Chicago Independence Day celebrations early and welcome in the nation’s birthday in style. Each festival will have family-friendly activities, food, live music and so much more! These festivals are worth checking out especially since they last for almost a week.

Chicago Independence Day- Firework Shows:

The Navy Pier is one of the go-to spots in Chicago for fireworks. The pier is a 3,300 foot-long pier that will give you the best viewpoint of the Chicago fireworks show.

Watch as the fireworks paint the sky with their great colors and reflect off of Lake Michigan. As the show goes on, you will enjoy music that will be synchronized with the fireworks to leave you with a memorable ending to your night. Even though Navy Pier is great for a fireworks show, the pier also offers many things to do during the day. The pier is home to many different restaurants to grab something to eat and stores to shop at. Catch a movie before the fireworks go off at Navy Pier’s IMAX Theater or take a ride on the attractions at the pier.

For a just as big celebration, check out Itasca, a short drive west of Chicago, this July 4th show makes the trip worth it. Located in the Hamilton Lakes, the village reported that it had spent up to $250,000 on its annual Independence Day celebration. This highly funded fireworks show is also accompanied by a 25-minute pyrotechnic show as well. While you wait for the fireworks, there will be live music for you to enjoy before your show. This Chicago Independence Day celebration is definitely one to check out especially since it’s a free event!
