Chicago St. Patrick’s Day River Dyeing
This annual Chicago St. Patrick’s Day event has been taking place for over 40 years now. Every year, The Journeymen Plumber’s Local Union 130 dyes the Chicago River a bright and beautiful emerald green. When the dye hits it the river it’s actually orange and then magically transforms into its green hue. There’s a belief that the road to Ireland is marked green from the Chicago River being dyed. The dye is believed to travel through the Chicago River to the Illinois River, then to the Mississippi, up the Gulf Stream and across the Atlantic where the green then enters the Irish Sea! Check out the river dyeing and then head out to the Chicago St. Patrick’s Day Parade afterward.
